Firestik™

Firestik™ is the innovative mechanical approach to Firestopping dynamic joints allowing up to 2” of movement in fire rated partitions. The flexibility of the Firestik™ product is used to protect dynamic joints in both standard cold formed steel/gypsum and CMU/block walls. The unique design provides superior movement capabilities while eliminating any requirement for fire caulk, spray, flute plates, drywall rips, or contour drywall cuts throughout head of wall joint assemblies. The simple design provides a positively attached firestopping that allows for 100% unencumbered movement experiencing no fatigue during life of the assembly.

Code Compliance

Firestik™ meets all standard building codes and its unique design provides industry solutions for meeting deflection requirements where other materials or systems are restricted by design, compressibility, elasticity, or bond strength characteristics. Firestik™ has been tested and is listed with both Underwriters Laboratories and Warnock Hersey/ITS Laboratories in accordance with:

  • UL 2079: Tests for Fire Resistance of Building Joint Systems
  • ASTM E 1966: Standard Test Method for Fire-Resistive Joint Systems
  • ASTM E-814: Standard Method of Fire Tests of Firestop Systems
  • ULC S115-M95: Standard Method of Fire Tests of Firestop Systems

Firestik™ has been evaluated by ICC-ES and is listed under approval number ESR-2012.

Seismic Requirements

Firestik™ is approved for Class III cycling requirements, 500 cycles at 30 cycles per minute, meeting seismic building code requirements. The Class III movement provides design advantages over mastic reliant systems currently limited to level II (wind sway) capabilities of 500 cycles at 10 cycles per minute.

Air Leakage Rating

Air leakage tests conducted and witnessed by UL on conditions using Firestik™ as the joint treatment established L-ratings of less than 1 CFM per lineal foot when using Firestik™ protection.

Sound Control

STC testing shows Firestik™ reduces sound transmission through head of wall joints. In comparison with acoustical caulks, the Firestik™ performs within the same STC range when measured on the same wall assemblies.
